To celebrate our third anniversary, my boyfriend and I recently took a weekend trip to Charlottesville, Virginia. I had never previously been, despite hearing raving reviews about the fantastic wineries and breweries in the area. My experience in UVA’s hometown led me to believe that perhaps people are too busy hyping up wineries to notice that there are some really good restaurants and bars in C’Ville as well.
We visited a total of seven wineries and one brewery, and all were nice. But by far the most impressive drink I had was from The Whiskey Jar. Their atmosphere was perfect for the chilly day; cozy and comfortable, somehow managing to look stylishly uncluttered despite rows of liquor bottles lining the exposed brick walls. Their cocktails however, were even better.
I ordered a “Miss American Pie” which included Bulleit Whiskey and a satisfying apple cider beer made in-house. The drink (pictured to the right) was absolutely delicious and full of flavor from start to finish. Those with an affinity for whiskeys and bourbons that find themselves in the Charlottesville area would be wise to check this spot out. If I ever go back, I’ll return for another cocktail or two (or five).
